Because vendor information has already been collected, vetted, and compiled by TEC's analysts, users already have access to a long list of vendors that can be whittled down using TEC's online tool, eBestMatch. In the preselection process, a user creates a profile outlining the enterprise's needs, which is compared to the capabilities of the available vendors. Each knowledge base is organized in a hierarchical tree structure and contains a breakdown of the detailed features and functions of vendors' solutions. Requirements from a high level business view can be specified, and then the functional details can be refined by drilling down the tree structure to more detailed levels of criteria. Vendors are disqualified if they fail to meet key requirements. At the end of the preselection, the user is presented with a shortlist of vendors that best meet his or her needs. The shortlist can be modified to include previously excluded or new vendors.
